- 1.5 tbsp oil
- 1 tsp cumin seeds
- 1 tsp mustard seeds.
- 2 green chilies
- 7-8 curry leaves
- 2 medium size onions
- 1 tsp turmeric
- Masala powder as per your taste buds
- 1 cup Chawli
- 1 tomato
- Salt to taste
- Handful coriander leaves
- 1 Potato
- Water as required
Getting started:
- In a large bowl, soak the chawli or black-eyed beans overnight in water.
- Rinse the chawli with fresh water after draining the water.
- Chop two medium sized onions and set them aside.
- Take one big potato and dice it into medium pieces.
- Slice a tomato into dice.
- Make deep cuts in two green chilies after removing their stems.
- Chop some coriander leaves for final garnishing.
How to Cook:
- Set a cooker on high heat and add 1 and a half tbsp oil, 1 tsp cumin seeds, and 1 tsp mustard seeds.
- Stir for a few seconds and add 2 green chilies and 7-8 curry leaves. Once the curry leaves turn brown, add 2 chopped onions and stir for a while.
- Then add 1tsp turmeric powder, and masala powder as per requirement and stir properly. Once the onions turn light brown, add 1 chopped potato and mix well.
- Then add 1 cup chawli, and mix again properly so it evenly adjusts with flavours.
- Now add 1 tomato and mix again. Add salt as per taste and give it a stir. At this point, add 1 cup water and let it cook for 2-3 minutes (stir once or twice meanwhile).
- Then top it with chopped coriander leaves and give it a few last stirs before closing the pressure lid for 1 whistle, on a high flame.
- After that, let it cook for more 7-8 mins.
- Now open the pressure cooker lid and check whether the potatoes are properly cooked! (By pressing any piece with a spatula)
